We would like to inform our customers and partners about the RHO mark, the mandatory conformity marking for transportable pressure equipment (TPE) placed on the market in Great Britain (England, Scotland, and Wales).
Effective from 1 January 2023, all new transportable pressure equipment intended for the Great Britain market must bear the RHO mark and be assessed by a UK Appointed Body. This includes products such as high-pressure gas cylinders, cylinder valves, and related pressure receptacles.
Scope of the RHO Mark
The RHO mark applies to transportable pressure equipment used for the carriage of dangerous goods, including:
High-pressure gas cylinders
Cylinder valves
Cylinder bundles
Tanks and pressure drums
Equipment falling under this scope that is placed on the Great Britain market after 1 January 2023 must comply with the UK Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations and display the RHO mark, together with the identification number of the UK Appointed Body that performed the conformity assessment.
Periodic Inspections
For RHO‑marked equipment, periodic inspections must be carried out by a UK Appointed Body in accordance with RID, ADR, and the Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations 2009. Inspections performed by a UK Appointed Body ensure continued compliance for transport within Great Britain as well as for cross‑border movements.
Dual Marking for Flexible Distribution
Manufacturers supplying both Great Britain and other markets may choose to have equipment assessed by both a UK Appointed Body and an EU Notified Body, allowing the product to bear both the RHO mark and the Pi mark. This dual‑marked solution enables seamless distribution across different regions without requiring separate production lines.
